Our time to Step Up: $300,000 matching gift announced to safeguard Northern Nevada conservation
A message from Walker Basin Conservancy CEO, Peter Stanton
In Nevada, our landscapes are not just part of where we live; it’s part of who we are. Every time I’m greeted by a sunny day in the mountains or a sunset over Walker Lake, I’m reminded of why our team fights for this region – our landscapes are too important to give up on. And I know our communities care too much to let that happen.
In the last month, critical federal funding for conservation in our region has been thrown into doubt. This uncertainty poses a serious threat to conservation work that protects wildlife, water and the way of life in Northern Nevada.
Working together as a community, we can ensure the lands we care about are protected. This is our time to step up.
A generous donor has pledged a $300,000 gift to the Conservancy to ensure our important work will continue - regardless of what may happen with federal funding. Can we count on you today to expand this generous donation and protect our beloved Nevada landscapes?
In just the next month, the Conservancy will undertake vital efforts which include:
Closing on a permanent water deal of an additional 3.5 cfs of water to save Walker Lake
Offering weekly environmental education sessions to rural Nevada public school youth
Permanently conserving 598 acre-feet of groundwater in Smith Valley
Growing over 60,000 native plants and cultivating acres of native seeds to help restore wildfire-damaged lands and reduce future fire risks.
Federal funding may be uncertain, but you can help ensure this important conservation work continues uninterrupted. Please join us and our generous donor and show your commitment to Nevada and our state’s rugged and beautiful landscapes.
Thank you for investing in Nevada when it is needed most, right here at home.
With gratitude and determination,
Peter Stantion, CEO
