Current Staff Position Opportunities

Biologist I

WBC is recruiting a Biologist I (Plants and Biological Soil Crusts) to join our team.

This position will work in collaboration with the US Geological Survey (USGS) – Western Ecological Research Center. The Biologist I position will work with a growing team focused on vegetation and biocrusts within a larger program dedicated to the topic of sagebrush ecosystems. The focus of this position is assisting in the synthesis of information as well as project design and planning. Some analyses and writing may also be expected, with a focus on management and restoration of vascular plants and biological soil crusts. Some field work will be associated with the position. Field work can involve 8-day hitches, camping in remote locations, and participating in safety check in threads. Projects are funded primarily by state and federal partners (e.g., Nevada Dept. of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service).


Biologist II

This position will work in collaboration with the US Geological Survey (USGS) – Western Ecological Research Center. The focus of this position is analysis and writing related to sagebrush ecosystems, with a special focus on habitat for sage-grouse, management and restoration of vascular plants and biological soil crusts. Field work should also be expected as part of the position. The Biologist will need to show that they have the ability to analyze community data, with a willingness to learn about biocrusts and plant communities. Projects are funded primarily by state and federal partners (e.g., Nevada Dept. of Wildlife, Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife Service). This position will include a combination of office and field work. Field work can involve 8-day hitches, camping in remote locations, and participating in safety check in threads. Field work may be up to 50% of the position during field season.


Seed Farm and Nursery Technician

WBC is recruiting a Seed Farm and Nursery Technician to join our team.

The Seed Farm & Nursery Technician supports Walker Basin Conservancy’s native seed farm and nursery production programs at the Conservancy’s native plant production facility in Smith Valley. This position assists with plant propagation, cultivation, irrigation, seed collection and processing, greenhouse operations, and seed farm field work.


Watershed Planning Project Manager

WBC is recruiting a Watershed Planning Project Manager to join our team.

The Watershed Planning Project Manager is responsible for managing a grant-funded project focused on developing a watershed group and watershed management plan for the Walker River Basin. The role will include coordination of project logistics, partner communications, meeting facilitation, and management plan development. The Walker River Basin encompasses the Walker River from its headwaters in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California to its terminus at Walker Lake in Nevada. The Basin supports critical ecosystems,agriculture, and tribal communities, and provides recreation opportunities and habitat for sensitive species. The Basin faces serious challenges, including over-appropriated water resources, ecological degradation, groundwater depletion, and climate-related stressors. The Watershed Planning Project Manager will play a key role in working towards solutions that balance multiple needs and objectives to address complex, landscape-scale issues in the Basin.


Human Resources Manager

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for a variety of Human Resources (HR) and administrative functions including employee relations, recruitment and hiring, onboarding and offboarding, employee evaluations, worker’s compensation claims, benefits administration, policy updates, and staff training and event coordination. The HR Manager is key position within the Conservancy and will play an integral role in the long-term success of the organization.


Stewardship Technician

WBC is recruiting a Stewardship Technician to join our team.

The Stewardship Technician is responsible for implementing stewardship projects in the Walker Basin and beyond. Stewardship activities include fuels management and conifer removal, mechanical and chemical weed control, wildlife friendly fence construction, irrigation installation and operation, native plant revegetation, trail building and recreation enhancement, process-based stream restoration, and other stream and wetland improvements. Stewardship Technicians work on small teams with other Technicians and at the direction of a Stewardship Specialist, often in remote locations requiring camping for four to eight days at a time.


Nursery Production Manager

WBC is recruiting a Nursery Production Manager to join our team.

The Nursery Production Manager plays a vital role in implementing grow plans and planning day-to-day nursery operations at the Conservancy’s native plant production site in Smith Valley. Working closely with the Native Seed Manager and Nursery Supervisor, the Nursery Production Manager performs production planning, procurement, shipping logistics, and customer fulfillment to meet strategic and contractual objectives. The person in this role will prioritize plant health, safety and quality standards, and operational efficiency.
